End of Hockey Season

With the men’s loss at Union, the hockey season is now at an end. But even as the season has come to a close, the band continues to get support. The quote below is what I can remember of a comment made by a Union fan just before game 2:

You guys are great! You are the best band currently in the building, and the best band which ever travels to Union. When you gave that puck to the girl last night, that was a class act. As for tonight, I hope you go home proud of yourselves, although dissapointed.

Our response was thank you, and we hope to see you tomorrow! Needless to say, we did not see him on Sunday. In addition to this man’s comments, the band also received this (via Zach) from Denise Curadi, mother of freshman D Luke Curadi:

As a token of appreciation, the Men’s Hockey Parents have arranged for you to have a Band DP Dough Party. [...] [M]any, MANY thanks for being there for the boys. [...] All the Very Best!!!”

Needless to say, we will be having a calzone party. Have a great break all!

Accolades for the Band

Following the recent story in the Times Union, the band has received a bunch of emails from the coaching staff and administrators at RPI giving their support. Here is a selection:

Great article and recognition to our band members that always goes above and beyond. We are looking forward to next season and love your support! ~John Burke (RPI Women’s Hockey Head Coach)

Thanks for all you do to make each and every game a special event! ~ James Knowlton (Director of RPI Athletics)

Well deserved guys – well deserved.  You guys are the best.  Look forward to having you with us this weekend at Union! ~ Seth Appert (RPI Men’s Hockey Head Coach)

Additionally, the band was given a shout out by Kevin Beattie, the Associate Athletic Director in his tweet just before the start of Game 1 v. Union.

Nice contingent of #RPI fans, though not a huge surprise to that. Good to have America’s Pep Band here as well. #ECACHockey

The Band is in the newspaper, but more importantly, the article is also available online!

Men’s Quarterfinals v. Union

The band will be performing at the games this weekend when RPI faces Union in the ECAC quarterfinals. The games will be played at Union, which makes travel very easy. The series is a best of 3.

We will be leaving West Hall at 5:15 for Union. The band will pay for the gas for travel between RPI and Union.

Spring break starts this Friday, and we understand that many people will be going home for the break. But if you can stay in town for the series, we will be happy to have you play! Let’s show Messa Rink and Union College the power of America’s Pep Band! LETS GO RED!

Winter Break

Over break the band is attempting to perform on the weekend of January 6 and 7, 2012. The women are playing Colgate on Friday, the man are against Dartmouth. On Saturday the women are vs. Cornell and the men are against Harvard. The band has received certian information (thanks Steve) that would suggest that Cornell will be in town to support their women’s team, and that would be unacceptable for the home band not to be there. Therefore, we are organizing a break band.

We understand that some people live far from school, and we will not hold this against you (no points). The weekend will be a great time to hang out at school with friends without schoolwork! If you would like to come, please email pepband (at) union (dot) rpi (dot) edu. We can also workout housing.

Thanks all, and have a great break!
